What follows are reports of operations to implant or replace a cochlear prosthetic device. The report aggreagtes all the individual records that contain the ICD-9 codes 20.96 thru 20.98. Cochlear implants are electronic devices consisting of a battery-powered processor that converts sound into modulations of an electric current, helping profoundly deaf people to better read speech. Some people with implants are able to distinguish words without visual clues and can hold converations on a telephone. The implants also enable profoundly deaf people to hear environmental sounds and warning signals. The total number of reported procedures is 352.
